The Season of the Church Year called Lent will
begin on Ash Wednesday, February 17. Lent is a time that we focus of
the bitter suffering and death of God's only begotten Son, Jesus
Christ, to deliver mankind, including us, from sin and death. As we
focus our minds and hearts on this fact, Lent becomes a time of
repentance for we learn the horrible consequences of our sin. It
also becomes a time of renewal for as we learn of God's fantastic,
unconditional love for us, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we
mature as God's people. This year the theme for this year's Midweek
Lent Devotional Services is "Renewal". The theme verse is Romans
12:1-2; "Therefore, I urge you, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your
spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern
of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then
you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good,
pleasing and perfect will."
