Brief Notes - This and That

THE “SOCIAL” EVENT OF THE SEASON!

The Ice Cream Social is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 11th, from noon to six, as part of Wellsville’s sesquicentennial celebration. This effort, which will encompass much more than getting in a few licks, is shaping up well but it is time to get serious about rounding up volunteers. There are many ways to help: we will need people to put up tents, and take them down, put out chairs, help with decorations, hand out helium balloons to the kiddies (does anyone know how to make balloon animals?), help with traffic control, general clean-up, putting flyers up around town, etc., etc., etc.. There will be sign up sheets in the lounge and I urge you to sign up for something, and/or help yourself to a disposable pan for the potluck supper and plan on joining us for a good time. There will be live music, demonstrations and displays, a potluck supper from 4:30-6:00, a missionary tent, revival-style preaching from Pastor Morris, traditional picnic games, a hayride and more! A last organizational meeting will be held Monday night, August 6th, at 7:00pm in the lounge and will be your last chance to put in your suggestions and also get information about set-up. Pray for lovely weather—but the potluck goes on no matter what! Thank you all for the support and enthusiasm already shown, and in anticipation of the many helping hands I as sure will join in.

Ask not for whom the ice cream truck bell ringeth, it ringeth for thee!

Sign up sheets for volunteers to help with the ice cream social are in the lounge and long  for  your signature. August 11th is not far off, and it’s going to be a wonderful afternoon. Come get the scoop on the social Monday night, August 6th, at 7pm in the lounge where we will have our last meeting prior to the event.

Guest Speaker

Please welcome Dr. William Merry to the Adult Bible Class on Sunday, August 5. Dr. Merry lives here in Wellsville but travels to New York City almost every weekend to share the Gospel and help establish a church for people from China and Thailand. I know you will enjoy hearing about this wonderful ministry. Bring a friend.

County Fair Report! WOW!

The Booth at the Allegany County Fair was a tremendous success.  Thank you to everyone who “manned” the booth. We gave away about 180 copies of sermons on CD’s. It seems people are so hungry for the Word of God. Thank you to Pete Carlin and Dick Helms for working together on this ministry. Please pray that the Lord will continue to work in the lives of those people that He placed in our path.

CAMP PIONEER PRESENTATION: The Rev. Dr. David Belasic, former President of our Eastern District and board member of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Extension Fund and Camp Pioneer will give a presentation about our district’s Camp Pioneer on Lake Erie near Angola on Sunday, August 12th at 9:00 AM. He will speak about the camp with a special emphasis on it’s ministry of sharing the Gospel with others, especially the lost. Everyone is invited to attend.

MENS' CLUB

The annual Men’s Club steak bake was held at Kato’s house on July 17th.  Even though the weather was a little rainy everyone enjoyed some good fellowship and a great meal.  Thanks Kato for your hospitality. The men’s clubs from Shepherd of the Valley Church and Pastor Larry Gerdes’ church in Rochester were our guests. Also a special thanks to Jane White for the delicious cakes we had for dessert.

Next month’s meeting is August 21st and will be held at the church pavilion.

NOTE FROM PROPERTIES BOARD

Church members are welcome to use our church facility for group gatherings.  When you want to use the church please be sure to check with the secretary in the church office before scheduling your date to avoid conflicts with other groups. A member building use form must be filled out and submitted to the properties board for official approval before finalizing the date. This procedure applies to non members as well but will utilize the non-member form. These forms are available in the office.  If you are unfamiliar with the forms, please stop by the church office weekdays from 8amnoon. The church secretary will be glad to help you with any questions you may have. Thank you.

              Dick Kling, Properties Chairman

QUESTION?

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY POTS, PANS, UTENSILS or anything borrowed from the church kitchen? If you do, please return them as soon as you can.  We are trying to take inventory of items we have and what is needed for upcoming church functions. Thank you.

 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Our 2007 Vacation Bible School will be held from Monday, August 13th through Friday, August 17th.  This year’s theme is “Quest For The Truth” which emphasizes that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  (In other words, Jesus is the Savior from sin, death, and the devil.)  Each day will begin at 5:30 PM with a light dinner.  From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM we will have Bible stories, crafts, music, and games.   Even though VBS is over a month away, please begin to pray for God’s guidance and blessing.  Also, be sure to spread the word about our VBS to children in your neighborhood.   Finally, consider volunteering to help.   A sign-up sheet will be on the church lounge table beginning June 10th listing positions for which help is needed.

VBS NEEDS:

1.       We are currently looking for someone to be our music leader. If you are interested, please speak to Pam Duttweiler or Pastor.

2.       We still need volunteers to serve as “Truth Seekers”. The responsibility of a Truth Seeker is to lead about 5-10 children from one teaching station to another. If you would like to know more, please speak to Pam or Pastor. If you would like to serve, please sign the VBS sign-up sheet on the table in the Church Lounge.

VBS STAFF MEETING: All VBS Staff is asked to meet in the Dorcas Room on Sunday, August 5th following the worship service. Material will be handed out, the schedule reviewed, and other important matters will be discussed. The meeting should not be long. Please make every effort to attend.
