| Note from your DCO Starting with a chuckle: ONLY IN AMERICA:
- Only in America
..do drugstores make the sick walk all the way
to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy
cigarettes at the front.
- Only in America
do people order double cheeseburgers, large
fries, and a diet coke.
- Only in America
do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns
in packages of eight.
- Only in America
do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille
lettering.
- Ever Wonder
Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our
skin?
- Why women cant put on mascara with their mouth closed?
- Why dont you ever see the headline Psychic Wins
Lottery?
- Why is it that doctors call what they do practice?
- Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
- Why dont sheep shrink when it rains?
- and finally . . . Why didnt Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
Well hopefully you got a chuckle out of these profound statements
and silly questions. With some questions we will never have an answer, but with the most
important question, we do have an answer. Does God love us? Yes! God loves us
unconditionally, He loves us so much that His Son, Jesus Christ died on the cross to save
us from sin, death, and the devil, and that through faith in Him, we have eternal life.
Praise be to God!
Out of that love comes our response; a response to love our
neighbors and to proclaim Christ to a world in need of the Savior. As a congregation we
have reached out to Sheba Sunayana who is caring for 153 orphans in Hyderabad, India. With
the help and support of churches, individuals, and organizations across western New York
and northern PA we are helping Sheba to purchase 10 acres of land on which to build a
church, school, and dormitories for children that have been orphaned or literally thrown
out of their homes. $25,000 was wired to her bank on Wednesday, Feb .6; on Thursday
morning here, but 11:00 pm in India, I received a phone call from Sheba. I wish that
everyone could have heard her excitement, her joy, laughter, and the continual words of
thank you. She repeatedly thanked me, saying that the words were just not enough. Sheba
said to me, I am so happy I cannot stop jumping up and down. What is even more
exciting is to know that these children are hearing about the love God has for them, and
what He has done by sending His only Son into the world. These children will grow up and
continue to share the Gospel with everyone they meet.
On Saturday, June 14th at Gargoyle Park in Olean there will be a
huge fund raiser for Sheba and the children. I would like members or organizations here at
Trinity to consider participating in this event. Please pray about how you can help.
Although this is tentative, it is very possible that Sheba will be here during May and
June. May God continue to bless us in our entire outreach ministry.
Blessings,
Betty Wood
Life at Trinity Christian Daycare
Growing Numbers of Happy Children and Success with Spaghetti
As of the beginning of February, Trinity Christian Daycare reached a
full enrollment of children in ratio to the number of staff. The eight infants with
varying daily numbers are keeping Nancy Link and Barb Delity very busy with diapers,
feeding, and developmental play activities. Connie Woodworth and Sue Cradduck
have all under control in the toddler room with creative art projects and educational
happenings, all along with diapers, naps, and good eating habits. The preschool is working
on letter recognition and scissor-cutting. Christian values and learning are incorporated
in prayers, songs, and artwork. Pastor has commented on the visits to his office with
requests for hugs and being allowed to sit on his lap. He is also doing a weekly visit
with the children in the sanctuary.
The February 12th Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser was a success despite
the snowy weather and the director being out sick. Shelly and Barry Dunne along with Fred
Dannheim, our ever-dependable kitchen gurus, came to the rescue with their organization
and preparation of zesty food. The toddlers with their teachers Sue and Connie made all
the colorful placemats. Several daycare staffers and board members assisted with serving
and clean-up. The basket auction pleased the lucky winners. Proceeds totaled approximately
$500 that will be added to the playground equipment fund. Many, many thanks go to all who
helped making the dinner and baskets a success.

FIRST TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
ABBREVIATED MINUTES
Meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Jim Helms and opened with
a prayer by Pastor Morris. Members in attendance were Betty Wood, Eleanor Cott, Lois
Flurschutz, Linda Gridley, Pastor Morris, Fran Lanphier, Jim Helms, Barry Dunne, and Cathy
Farwell.
We went over the usual monthly reports and full copies are on file
with the minutes in the church office. We went on to discuss the Elders report and Pastors
new Basic Christian course which is open to everyone. We also appointed Marge Vossler as
the assistant Treasurer to help Linda when needed. Betty brought up that she had an
interesting conversation with a woman who had the chance to spend some time at
Shebas Mission. Betty will try to have her come speak to us at a later date about
her experience at the Mission.
Finally there was concern expressed at how our membership is
slipping in our clubs within the church and discussed different ideas how we can work on
this. We decided it needed further looking into to see what we can do to help.
Meeting was closed with the Lords Prayer and adjourned at 7:55
PM.
