Note from your DCO

Summer is here! At least that’s what the calendar says. Isn’t it amazing how the seasons affect our activities? So as we enjoy this summer, we begin to also enjoy ways to reach out to our community and continue to share the love of our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. We will have so many opportunities to do just that. Beginning the week of July 13th, we will have a booth at the Allegany County Fair. You will find sign up sheets in the lounge, if you would be willing to spend some time at the Fair. This year’s theme is “The Good Shepherd”. Help is needed to cut out little sheep and paste a magnet on the back. This can be done at home. Simply pick up the project from me. I will have the materials in my office. We will also be handing out CD’s. Pete Carlin has been working very hard on making copies of a CD entitled “The Parables of Jesus”. This free domain CD can be copied and distributed. If you would like a copy see Pete.

Look for a float in the Balloon Rally Day parade on Saturday, July 12th. This float will advertise our upcoming Vacation Bible School and our Daycare. I am sure Kristen Crawford, our Sunday School Superintendent, would love to have volunteers to help with the decoration or on the day of the parade.

On Saturday, July 19th, the Daycare staff will be holding a car wash in the TOPS parking lot. After getting your car washed, stop by the Ladies Aid Rummage Sale out in the pavilion. Funds raised from this sale with go towards the purchase of land for Sheba and the children in India.

Events for August include a Pig Roast on Sunday, August 10th. Save the date and ask a friend to come with you.

Beginning Monday, August 11, Vacation Bible School will begin. Registration forms can be found in the lounge.

Also if you haven’t already bought your copy of the beautiful CD, “Piano Classics”, now is the time to purchase your copy for a donation of $10.00 Carole Aldrich recorded 13 beautiful songs on her baby grand piano. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of land for Sheba and the children.

God is good! Let us be truly thankful. Remember, during this busy summertime to take time to give Him thanks and praise through worship and prayer. Glory Be to God!

A Little Humor!

“Little Johnny and his family were having Sunday dinner at his Grandmother’s house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When Little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away. ‘Johnny! Please wait until we say our prayer.’ said his mother.

“I don’t have to.” The boy replied. “Of course, you do.” his mother insisted,” We say a prayer before eating, at our house.’

‘That’s our house,’ Johnny explained. ‘But this is Grandma’s house and she knows how to cook!

Just one more thought. I want to thank everyone who helped in anyway with the TTOP fundraiser for Sheba. Once again this congregation showed the love we have for our Lord in service to Him. The amount that was raised totaled $5000.00 Thank You! and God Bless!

LADIES AID

We had a very small turnout for our first meeting of the summer. Devotions were read by President June entitled “When I Say I am a Christian”.

A short meeting was conducted which included approval for Eleanor to present her lovely sketch of our First Lutheran Church for duplications as shelf sitters.

Betty Wood introduced Sheba who gave a very in-depth look into the plight of the innocent children, poor and orphaned, in India. She also had a fine slide show of her children at the orphanage.

We closed with the Lord’s prayer and Janet Vargo was hostess for our snacks and did a very fine job. Thank you Janet.

Respectfully,
Sally Dannheim, Secy.

DORCAS

Dorcas met June 2, 2008, out last session before summer vacation. Shirley Neu gave two pretty “block” quilt tops—our “Thanks” to Shirley!

Betty brought six lap robes, some were crocheted and some pieces of material in colorful designs. “Thank you Betty”.

Tying the large quilt “Blue Streak” was a challenge for the ladies, but they were able to complete the work!

Memorials in memory of Lorraine Krentz and Earl Herke were given to Bethesda Lutheran Home.

The ladies enjoyed a tasty lunch and Betty shared interesting stories from Moments for Graduates. The tale of a “dog alligator” and Charles Schulz’ early life was enjoyed by all.

Next work session—SEPTEMBER 8TH– hope to see you there. Enjoy the summer!

MENS CLUB

The June meeting of Men’s Club was held at the church fellowship hall with 14 members present. Cool wet weather moved us inside where a picnic style dinner was enjoyed by all.
Thanks Kato and Dave!

After a brief meeting, Lou gave an interesting talk about the history of his Indian heritage.
Next month’s meeting will be our annual steak bake. It will be at Kato’s house on the 15th of July. We are inviting the Men’s Club from Rochester to join us.

TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH
COUNCIL MEETING
ABBREVIATED MINUTES
May 19, 2008

The Council met on May 19, 2008. Members in attendance were Linda Gridley, Janet Carlin, Eleanor Cott, Betty Wood, Carol English, Fran Lanphier, Dick Kling, Jim Helms, Kay McCulloch, Kato Aldrich, Pastor Morris, Lois Flurschutz, and Cathy Farwell.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and gone over first and then the usual reports from the treasurer, etc. were read and complete copies of these are available in the church office.

It was a short meeting with not much to go over but Pastor pointed out that June 8th is going to be a very busy day for the church because we are inducting new members and also having two Baptisms.

Kato also brought up the idea that we would like to have a church picnic again and we decided we would try to have one in August and invite the Shepherd of the Valley members to have a “fellowship” picnic.

The meeting was then adjourned at 7:45PM and closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Farwell
