A CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

church-thumbnail.jpg (5367 bytes)It’s exciting - it’s here and now, it is our 150th birthday. We need to celebrate God’s gift of Christian fellowship. The hardy souls who left their homes in Germany to come here to an unknown future knew that they would need Christian fellowship and to support each other so they formed what we have now, First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. They were very wise because they brought with them the one thing that could protect them, the love of God. We most assuredly have reason to celebrate and remember them and give thanks to God for the work He did among them and the succeeding generations.

The sesquicentennial committee has been working to plan programs through out the year with special programs and speakers. Each month will feature a church organization to highlight the part they play in church related activities. Our first program will be sponsored by the Concordia Ladies Aid and the Dorcas Guild. They will sponsor a luncheon after church on February 15th. Because of Valentines Day, it is without question a celebration of Christian love and fellowship. It is interesting that the word love according to the concordance appears in the bible about 750 times. The only other words that equal or exceed this number are "Lord” and "God" and a good number of these include the word "Love". There will be a sign up sheet so the ladies can properly prepare for the lunch.   The cost for the meal will be $7.00 each or $20.00 per family, with a small percentage to go to the 150th celebration.

We hope that everyone will take an active part in this celebration because its purpose is to thank God for His Love and Mercy for over 150 years. Please save March 15th for a luncheon sponsored by the youth group and April 12th at the Easter breakfast.       If you are interested in joining the committee we meet on the second Tuesday at 4 PM. We welcome any ideas or plans that you might have to make this an outstanding year to remember.

The Rest of the Story

Betty WoodA Note From Your DCO.

What a history making year 2009 has started out to be! Although I did not get the opportunity to watch a lot of the Inauguration, there is no doubt that it will be recorded in the history books for future generations to learn about for years to come. As Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we will also be making history as we celebrate First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church’s 150th Anniversary. A year- long celebration is beginning to unfold. Here are some important dates to put on your calendar:

TENATIVE SCHEDULE

  • Feb. 15th - Ladies Aid and Dorcas sponsored dinner after church
  • March 15th –Dinner sponsored by our Youth Group
  • April 12th- Our Easter Breakfast
  • May 17th – A Pot Luck Dinner sponsored by the Church Council
  • June 28th – Chicken BBQ and Confirmation Reunion Sunday
  • July 21st- Pig Roast sponsored by the Men’s Club
  • Aug. 16th – Outdoor Service with Picnic sponsored by the Altar Guild
  • September 13th – Our special Dinner will be catered so that everyone may have a day of rest and simply enjoy!!

As with any scheduled events, there may need to be changes made. So be sure and watch out for further information. In fact, the Anniversary Committee is still in the process of confirming the events with the different organizations involved. If you would like to be part of the planning, please join the committee on the second Tuesday of every month at 4:00 pm.

Also the Anniversary committee would like to have a Pictorial Directory done. This would be in conjunction with a History book. If you would like to help with the Directory, please contact me. Olan Mills has revised their procedure and there is very little time commitment on our part. We just need someone to be the contact person.

Also there is a bulletin board in the hallway by the storage room which can be used to display pictures from our history. If you have ideas or would like to use the bulletin board and create a new one as part of the celebration, please contact me.

What an exciting year ahead!! And with so many fellowship activities being planned what a wonderful opportunity to reach out and invite a neighbor, colleague, or friend! Don’t be afraid to ask!

Sing Alleluia! Amen! Let your prayers and praises ascend.
Lift up your voices and sing
To our Lord God, our Savior and King!
Here brought together by grace
We are gathered as friends in this place.
And assembled as one, In the name of the Son,
Lifting hearts, lifting hands,
Celebrating as friends, And proclaiming the Lord,
All our praises afford.
We are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Senior Citizens News

Our December luncheon meeting was held on the 4th with 10 members and guests in attendance. We were glad to have Jean and Gary Rushmore and Barb Delity join us.

Christmas poems read by June were our devotions, followed by the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports, and cards were signed for eight shut-ins.

Our next meeting will be February 5th at noon in the Dorcas Room. New members are welcome to join us! Committee members will be Arlene Leave, Dorothy Herke and June Helmer. Hope to see you there!

LADIES AID

Eleven ladies attended our first winter meeting Friday afternoon, January 2nd. Devotions were done by Charlotte Ennis. Minutes and Treasurer’s report were read and approved. Correspondence was read.

Shelley Dunne brought before the ladies a fund raiser idea for this winter. Plans are in the works for a Valentine’s dinner, directly after church on February 15th. The proposed menu sounds delicious but final plans and cost will be announced as soon as possible so congregational plans can be made. We pray for a great turnout.

After a few other issues were resolved, we closed with the reciting of the Lord’s Prayer.

Arlene Leave & Marjorie Knowles treated us to some tasty snacks to send us on our way home.

Respectfully,
Sally Dannheim, Ladies Aid Secretary

FELLOWSHIP DINNER—SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2009

Ladies Aid & Dorcas Guild will be offering the first fellowship dinner of The Brothers and Sisters In Christ Sesquicentennial celebration at Trinity Lutheran Church on February 15th directly following the morning worship service. Reservations will be required, please sign up on the sheet in the lounge. The meal will cost $7 each or $20 per family. These fellowship events will be sponsored by the various organizations with the church and will feature a short presentation on their history and function, but mostly we will be enjoying the long Lutheran tradition of good food and good friends. Hope to see you there!

DORCAS

Dorcas started 2009 by tying one large colorful quilt. We miss Janet Vargo on vacation until Easter. However, Janet had bought quilt backs, lining and matched up six quilts. That will keep us busy until her return.

Dorcas received a “Thank you” from the community action Angels for quilts and lap robes given them.

Betty Havens read a devotion from Barbara Johnson’s Daily Splashes of Life. January 26th gals moved to lounge area-Dorcas Room was an ice box. Gals tied a beautiful Butterfly quilt fashioned by Shirley Neu.

February meetings will be Feb 9th & 26th. Come tie a knot!

TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING-ABBREVIATED MINUTES
DECEMBER 15, 2008

The meeting was opened by President Jim Helms at 7:00 PM. A prayer was offered by Pastor Morris. Attending were: Jim Helms, Fran Lanphier, Barry Dunne, Pastor Robert Morris, Betty Wood, Lois Flurschutz, Carol English, Linda Gridley, Kristin Crawford, Kato Aldrich, Kay McCulloch, Larry and Marge Vossler and Chuck White.

The 2009 budget was reviewed and discussed. The budget was set up by identifying our expenditures, estimating the anticipated offerings and finding where the difference would be funded. A few changes were made and the budget was approved. The adopted budget is available in the church office.

Various officer and committee reports were read and approved. All reports are available with the full council minutes in the church office.
